 SATURDAY INSPIRATION

"Then show your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall
spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you, the glory of
the Lord shall be your rear guard." Isaiah 58:8
(In today's terms, today's Bible verse says, God has your back!)

A voyaging ship was wrecked during a storm at sea and only two of the men
on it were able to swim to a small, desert like island. The two survivors,
not knowing what else to do, agree that they had no other recourse but to
pray to God.

However, to find out whose prayer was more powerful, they agreed to divide
the territory between them and stay on opposite sides of the island.

The first thing they prayed for was food. The next morning, the first man
saw a fruit-bearing tree on his side of the land, and he was able to eat
its fruit.

The other man's parcel of land remained barren.

After a week, the first man was lonely and he decided to pray for a wife.
The next day, another ship was wrecked, and the only survivor was a woman
who swam to his side of the land.

On the other side of the island, there was nothing.

Soon the first man prayed for a house, clothes, more food. The next day,
like magic, all of these were given to him.

However, the second man still had nothing.

Finally, the first man prayed for a ship, so that he and his wife could
leave the island. In the morning, he found a ship docked at his side of
the island.

The first man boarded the ship with his wife and decided to leave the
second man on the island. He considered the other man unworthy to receive
God's blessings, since none of his prayers had been answered.

As the ship was about to leave, the first man heard a voice from heaven
booming, "Why are you leaving your companion on the island?"

"My blessings are mine alone, since I was the one who prayed for them,"
the first man answered.

"His prayers were all unanswered and so he does not deserve anything."

"You are mistaken!" the voice rebuked him. "He had only one prayer, which
I answered. If not for that, you would not have received any of my
blessings."

"Tell me," the first man asked the voice, "what did he pray for that I
should owe him anything?"

"He prayed that all your prayers be answered."

For all we know, our blessings are not the fruits of our prayers alone,
but those of another praying for us.
________

Many years ago, while watching a little TV on Sunday instead of going to
church, I watched a Church in Atlanta honoring one of its senior pastors
who had been retired many years...

He was 92 at that time and I wondered why the Church even bothered to ask
the old gentleman to preach at that age. After a warm welcome,
introduction of this speaker, and as the applause quieted down he rose
from his high back chair and walked slowly, with great effort and a
sliding gate to the podium. Without a note or written paper of any kind,
he placed both hands on the pulpit to steady himself and then quietly and
slowly he began to speak....

"When I was asked to come here today and talk to you, your pastor asked me
to tell you what was the greatest lesson ever learned in my 50 odd years
of preaching. I thought about it for a few days and boiled it down to just
one thing that made the most difference in my life and sustained me
through all my trials. The one thing that I could always rely on when
tears and heart break and pain and fear and sorrow paralyzed me...the only
thing that would comfort was this verse..........

"Jesus loves me this I know. For the Bible tells me so. Little ones to him
belong, we are weak but he is strong....Yes, Jesus loves me...The Bible
tells me so." When he finished, the church was quiet.

You actually could hear his footsteps as he shuffled back to his chair. I
don't believe I will ever forget it.

A pastor once stated, "I always noticed that it was the adults who chose
the children's hymn 'Jesus Loves Me' (for the children of course) during a
hymn sing, and it was the adults who sang the loudest because I could see
they knew it the best."

Today, dear God I place my burdens in Your hands.
I look to You for help.
I admit I cannot do it alone.
I am ready to receive Divine assistance.
I am very appreciative of the miracles that
I am about to receive.
Thank You God!

In Jesus Christ's name … Amen
