 OVERCOME LONELINESS

“Trust in God at ALL times. . . God is a refuge for us.” Psalms 62:8

If there is one feeling that many people have in common, it is the feeling
of loneliness. With most of us, it is only an occasional or fleeting
feeling. With some, it is a devastating feeling that can become almost
overwhelming and overpowering.

Why this loneliness? Probably it is because each one of us is essentially
alone, even though it seems like we are surrounded by other people all
the time. No matter how close you may feel to another person, there is a
part of you that is separate and apart; there is a part of you that no one
else shares.

We are lonely until we realize that we are NEVER alone. God is with us
every moment of every day. Even when we shut our door at night and turn
out the light, we are still not alone. God is with us! God's presence is
with us and God's light shines through us. When we realize that we are
never alone, day or night, in the midst of a crowd, or in solitude; when we
realize that God is with us – we no longer feel lost, or alone.

When we realize that we are not alone, our human energy actually changes
and we seem to draw people and happy experiences to ourselves.

If you long for companionship, then you are not one who has withdrawn into his or her shell. You are basically loving and outgoing. You do not want to shut people out of your life. In your loneliness, you are reaching out in prayer. In your reaching out, you are opening the way, and putting out a welcome sign for a happy response from other people.

It is true that there are many, many lonely people in the world. It is
like an epidemic, and these people are lonely for a variety of reasons.
THEY are praying for YOU, just as you are praying for them. They need
YOUR companionship. A person may be surrounded by people and still be
lonely if the one person that they felt closest and happiest with is no
longer with them. They are lonely, not because of a lack of friends, but
because of the loss of one special person who had become almost a part of them. Can such loneliness be overcome? It can, and has been by many, many people.

As difficult as it is for some people to accept the fact that life must go
on, that they must put themselves back into life, they discover that they
are able to do this with God's help. They find that the love they have
cherished is not really lost, that all they have gained through sharing
the love of another person helps them to understand and reach out to
others now.

Loneliness can be a feeling of not relating to others, of not really being
a part of life and other's lives. Many feel unneeded and unwanted. It is
not easy to be in this position. However, the loneliness can be alleviated
if the person will begin to think of him or herself as a child of God, a
spiritual being, connected to and loved by God. They are important and
needed by God, in God's scheme of things. How a person relates to God and how they relate to themselves has more to do with a feeling of loneliness, than the circumstances in which they may find themselves at the moment.

There is a difference between being alone and being lonely. Many times
the great need is to make friends with ourselves, if we are lonely.

A positive, affirmative prayer that many Positive Christianity readers use
is, "I am wanted and needed here." They often repeat this just before
they enter a room filled with people they do not know.

There are some people that we never think of as lonely. They live alone
but they seem a part of life; they are vital and alive;, they are
interested in what is going on around them.

Through prayer, this ministry has helped many people to overcome
loneliness, first of all, by teaching them that they are never alone, that
God is with them.

Your life is an expression of God's life; your heart is filled with God's
love. Say to yourself: "God loves me. God has faith in me. God needs
me. God is with me now. I am never alone."

Just the mere saying of these words may not take away all the loneliness,
and it may not change conditions in your life, instantly, BUT even just
saying such words in prayer will help tremendously. For such words will
help to change that trend in your thinking and feeling. They will take
you back to the realization of yourself as a needed and wanted spiritual
being; and someone that is needed and an important part of God's perfect
plan.

Many Positive Christianity "Positive Daily Inspiration" readers say in prayer,
every morning, "Something good is going to happen to me today, something happy is on the way."

With God you lift life up within you, and you have a feeling of expectancy,
a feeling of joy in living, and you have a renewed sense of wonder.

We may walk apart; but we do not walk alone.

Always God is with you. Always you are one with God!
